    Doerr's Use of Literary Devices

    Kind of Activity:

    Classwide Discussion

    Objective:

    Students will analyze the literary devices and elements in scenes from "Franny" and interpret the scene in relation to the play's themes.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.1, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.4, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.5, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.SL.6

    Structure:

    Prior to class, select 4-5 short (1-2) page sections from Parts Zero through Three that have a lot of literary devices in them. A few of the most literary-device-heavy segments include:

    • Irony of various kinds: the changing location of the Sea of Flames; Marie-Laure's ability to "see" things...
