Akira (1988 Film) Irony

Friendship

Tatsuo and Kaneda have been friends for years, having formed a motorcycle gang together in the streets of Neo-Tokyo. But ironically they become enemies as Tatsuo's latent psychic powers are unleashed and he becomes increasingly violent and unable to fully control his powers and Kaneda attempts to stop him.

Singularity

We watch in the opening of the film as a white singularity sweeps through Tokyo destroying it. Neo-Tokyo is built from the ashes, but ironically Neo-Tokyo suffers the same singularity which destroys it when Akira is brought back to life in order to stop Tetsuo and he does so by once again creating singularity and destroying the new Tokyo.

Death

Tetsuo has become an ever enlarging grotesque form of matter that is destroying everything in his path. Kaneda attempts to stop him but is consumed by the fleshy mass. He is able to escape by shooting his way out, but ironically goes back into the creature that is Kaneda because he hopes to save his friend from the rage-filled form.

Big Bang

Kaneda has been transported to an alternate universe so that he can no longer destroy the Tokyo he is from. Ironically, though Kaneda has become a creature of destruction he is given the ability to create his own parallel universe however he sees fit.
