In A White Heron, why does Sylvia originally think she wants to tell the man where the white heron lives?
Sylvia doesn’t really have friends or interact with new people because she is very shy, but the young man has won her over patiently. She admires him and is delighted by him, and the “woman’s heart” inside of her has vague stirrings of romantic feelings. She wants to please him. In addition, the young man has offered money in exchange for the information, a sum that seems really large to Sylvia. Her family is very poor and money like that would make a big difference in their lives.
