What does Marco mean when he says, “All the law is not in a book”? What about when Alfieri says, “Only God makes justice”? Relate this back to the previous day’s discussion on Eddie’s and Alfieri’s view of the law.
Marco means that sometimes the law does not serve justice. In his mind, if he obeys the law and does not confront Eddie for reporting him to Immigration, then justice is not being served. Alfieri wants Marco to realize that he himself cannot decide what is just in the world — only God can decide that. Relating this back to Eddie’s view of justice and the law, Eddie does not seem to care about what is just or not, only what suits his own needs and desires.
