    “I Object!” Mounting Henry’s Defense

    Group Work

    Objective:

    to practice public speaking skills; to explore Henry’s and the other men’s options for a defense

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.9-10.1

    Structure:

    1. Henry and the other defendants are not offered a fair trial, since the Judge, Jury, and Press are all biased against them. George does his best under the circumstances, but the odds are stacked against them. Tell the class that today they will be acting as Henry’s defense team, and will work to prepare for the trial just as George did.
