Jacinta “Jack”
Jack is the story's protagonist, a wife to Gabe and co-owner of the Crossways Security Company. Jack is a smart woman with adequate computer hacking and data mining skills. Jack works alongside her husband, a cyber security expert. Jack's work is risky because she illegally breaks into buildings to mine data for their clients.
One day, Jack returns home at 2 a.m. and finds her husband murdered. When the police arrive, they accuse Jack as the main suspect in the murder. Jack launches her secretive investigation to ascertain the people who killed her husband. Consequently, Jack has to use her skills to escape police custody. Throughout the narrative, Jack does her investigations undercover until she realizes that her husband was killed by top government agencies that required the software he was hiding from them.
Gabriel Medway “Gabe”
Gabe is Jack's husband and the co-owner of Crossways Security Company, which deals in data mining penetration testing. Gabe is a loving husband who is ready to do anything to protect his wife. Gabe is a computer hacker who works with his wife to break into different institutions to hack data for their clients. One night, unidentified people discover that Gabe has a vital software application that can help them acquire a huge amount of money from the government. When the unknown people approach Gabe and request to pay him to acquire the software, Gabe refuses, and they kill him instantly.
Helena Wick
Helena Wick is a journalist and Jack's sister. Helena is a knowledgeable and critical woman who analyzes situations before developing solutions. When Jack tells Helena of the sudden murder of Gabe and the unfolding events, she analyzes the situation. She advises Jack to get a competent lawyer to defend her in court.
Cole Garrick
Cole is one of the best friends of Gabe, and he is an employee at Cerberus Technology Company. Cole is a secretive man who rarely reveals anything. Cole knows a lot about Gabe’s death but is unwilling to share the facts with Jack and Helena, who are trying to understand what is unfolding.
Jeff
Jeff is Jack's former lover and never moved on after the breakup. The author portrays Jeff as an arrogant and vindictive person. When Jeff learns that the police are after Jack, he spies on her and tells her he knows she is hiding in a hostel. Jeff tells Jack to turn herself into the police, who are looking for her.
Julian Archer
Julian is Gabe's close ally. Julian is a kind woman because she bails her out after realizing Jack has no money to pay for the night. However, Jack is suspicious that Julian might be a spy.
