Zero Days Background

Zero Days Background

Zero Days (2023) is Ruth Ware's novel about Jack and her husband Gabe, who are two of the foremost "penetration specialists" who are hired by companies across the world to test their physical and internet security. More specifically, they are hired by companies to break into their buildings and hack into their computer systems. However, one of their jobs goes horribly wrong, and Gabe is killed under mysterious circumstances. The trouble is that Jack is the prime suspect in his death and must work to evade the police and other interested parties, mourn the loss of her beloved husband, and bring the person who killed him to justice.

As with many of Ware's previous novels, Zero Days received exceptionally positive reviews when it was published. Air Mail wrote a glowing review of the novel and called Ware the "new Agatha Christie." Kirkus Reviews wrote a similarly positive review. They praised Ware's ability to write in a different genre than her previous novels, the propulsive action, and the novel's characters. They said that the novel has "Lots of adrenaline-driven action, [which is] a departure from Ware's usual wire-taut mysteries."
