Wicked Summary

A girl named Elphaba is born to an alcoholic mother and devout father in Munchkinland. Elphaba is different from other children because her skin is of a green color. She becomes a victim of discrimination and fear from even those close to her. A cruel wizard takes over the land of Oz, who is cruel especially against those who are different, and practices absolute, uncompromised authority.

During her college years, Elphaba suffers the scrutiny of the headmistress Morrible, but also befriends Glinda and doctor Dilamond, who is fighting for animal rights in the land of Oz. Elphaba also has an ongoing rivalry with her sister, Nessarose, who is their father’s favorite. Doctor Dilamond is murdered by one of Morrible’s servants, and the evil headmistress tries to recruit the two sister and Glinda to work for The Wizard of Oz. Elphaba goes to Emerald city to confront the wizard about the mistreatment of Animals and other oppressed of the Oz.

Elphaba joins the underground of Emerald City against the cruel wizard. She has an affair with Fiyero, who dies in an attempt of assassination of the wizard. Elphaba gets sent to convent. Years later, she starts living with Fiyero’s wife and family, who get killed by the wizard’s police as well.

Elphaba decides to practice magic, mirroring her sister Nessarose, who became a ruler of Munchkinland. Glinda also became a witch in the meantime. After Nessarose dies from Dorothy’s house and her shoes are given to Dorothy by Glinda, Elphaba learns that the Wizard is her actual father. She loses grip on the reality and obsesses over the shoes and Dorothy, who eventually kills her with water. Elphaba is remembered as the Wicked Witch of the West.
