Why do Billy's parents want to live in town and why don't they?

Billy's family doesn't live in town because they do not have the money to afford it. But his parents want to live there to provide educational opportunities for their children that they can't get in the country. Billy is homeschooled, which means he only can be taught as much as his parents know. Remind students when the book is set--homeschooled students today have more access to lessons from people besides their parents. Even though Billy likes life in the country, his parents want to give him and his sisters the opportunity for a different life.
