Harry Burns
Harry Burns is one of the two main characters in When Harry Met Sally, which is quite evident in the title of the movie. Harry is a pessimistic man who uses humor to hide from his sadness. Harry was married to Helen, but they got divorced, which ultimately made him even more sad and pessimistic than before. The movie in many ways is a documentation of how Harry evolves as a character, because his outlook on life changes drastically when he meets Sally.
Sally Albright
Sally Albright is a woman in the traditional sense, she has her plans planned out, she has her socks on and knows the way she wants her meals and her life to play out. She is on the verge of OCD, as she even alphabetizes her videotapes. At the same time, Sally is a good and strong female, always standing behind her friends and their choices. While Harry changes a lot through the course of the movie, Sally remains Sally.
Marie
Marie is a hopeless romantic, and all she wants is to find her true love and live happily ever after. She just doesn’t know how, which is why she ends up dating a man that already is married to another woman, who he will never leave. Yet, Marie is so deep in that she chooses to continue swimming, hoping that he will one day realize that she is the one for him.
