Jay
He is the main protagonist and narrator of the story. He and his sister, Kay, venture into a pet store to find a pet. He struggles to make up his mind as there is so much choice. However, he ends up making the final decision instead of risking not having a pet at all.
Kay
She is the narrator’s sister, and the pet they choose is hers to share with her brother. Though she means well, she too cannot make her mind up and distracts her brother with other pets.
