Y que normas hay cuando una tiene que trabajar todo el día y no puede con su alma?
And what are the rules when a woman has to work all day and can’t endure it any longer?
Gloria goes to a pharmacy to ask for medication, but the worker there won’t sell her anything because she needs a doctor’s permission. She tells her to go tell a doctor that she is addicted and needs medication. Gloria is an exhausted housewife and her only coping mechanism is medication. The scene and her response to the worker show her utter desperation.
Mas traumatizada estoy yo y me aguanto.
I’m traumatized even more but I endure it.
Juani is Gloria’s neighbor who has a daughter with telekinetic powers. Juani is abusive towards her daughter, both physically and emotionally, creating resentment in the girl. Her friend warns her that girls can get severely traumatized from the abuse, and she brushes it off. It is clear that the mother holds grave resentment towards her daughter because of her father who left her, and only sees her through that. She is a clear example of a selfish and abusive mother who pushes generational trauma onto her daughter.
Yo fui la que mate a mi marido.
I was the one who killed my husband.
Gloria kills her husband at the end. The police doesn’t find out anything, there are no clues leading to her. In the scene where a detective comes to her job to inform her of the investigation Gloria admits to killing her husband, demonstrating it on him with a broom. The scene is an indication of Gloria’s desire to have control, a final desperate attempt to be in control after being emotionally abused by her husband the entire time.
