Weetzie Bat Summary

The book follows the young girl, Weetzie Bat, and he best friend, Dirk, as they embrace their love for 1950s and seek out the best hot spots relating to this era.

Dirk’s grandmother, Fifi, encourages their love for the 1950s by sharing old movies and taking them to sites such as Cantor’s of West Hollywood. After Dirk confides he is gay, Weetzie suggests they find a man for the two of them, calling the process “Duck Hunting”.

When they are gifted a magical lamp by Fifi, they make a wish for love. Whilst Dirk does find a man, referred to as, “Duck,” and Weetzie finds “My Secret Agent Lover Man” there are complications in both of their relationships.

Weetzie sleeps with Dirk and Duck as she wants to have a baby, which makes finds “My Secret Agent Lover Man” angry when he learns she is pregnant, but he stays with her as he loves her. However, he boyfriend ends up getting another girl pregnant, leaving the bay behind with Weetzie to look after.

The four of them, Weetzie, Dirk, Duck, and My Secret Agent Lover Man and the two babies, live together as an odd family unit, meaning the genie did help them find love after all.
