Weather Background

Weather Background

Weather was published in 2020 by American writer Jenny Offill and is her third published book. The novel follows librarian Lizzie Benson as she copes with a chaotic and turbulent American life. From no longer loving her husband to having to deal with a brother recovering from a drug addiction who has also become a father, the reader is left constantly immersed in Lizzie's hectic life. The title, Weather, comes from not only the physical weather that acts as a representation of Lizzie's constantly changing life but also the political storm that is developing in modern America and in Lizzie's own life.

Jenny Offill was born in Massachusetts in 1968 and is best known for her 2014 novel, Dept. of Speculation, which was listed in the New York Times as one of 'The Best Books of 2014' and was a finalist in the L.A. Times' Fiction Award, as well as being shortlisted for the United Kingdom Folio Prize and the Pen/Faulkner Award. Jenny Offill also teaches at both Syracuse and Queens Universities and in 2016 was granted a Guggenheim Fellowship. She has published four children's books and along with Elissa Schappell, has edited two collections of essays.
