Eva Khatchadourian
Eva Khatchadourian is one of the protagonists of the story. Before she becomes a mother, she leads an extremely active life, travels a lot, stays at home rarely. Her relationship with Kevin could be described as rocky. She doesn’t feel love for him, more often than not she feels fear. Eva undergoes a serious development, not to mention that she learns to live with an idea of her son being a mass murderer.
Franklyn
Franklyn is a husband of Eva and a father of Kevin and Celia. He is a typical Republican, a patriot, who worships the traditional values. His faith in the family makes him ignore the signs that Kevin’s games are not usual children’s’ antics. According to Eva, he is a wonderful father and one can hardly argue with that fact, but one can’t help but admit that his love makes him blind.
Kevin
Kevin is the antagonist of the story. From his earliest childhood, he proves to be an unusual child, unfortunately not in a good way. He is cruel and cunning, nothing can make him regret his decisions. Kevin kills the person, who loves him more than anyone else, without any hesitation. It seems that imprisonment makes him realize that that the crimes he commits are awful. For the first time in his whole life, Kevin is scared, for he is going to be transferred to the adult jail.
Celia
Celia is the youngest child of Eva and Franklyn. She is a sweet child, who doesn’t whine, cry or scream like other children often do. She trusts everyone and doesn’t hold grudges. She trusts Kevin enough to stand in front of the target, even after that awful incident which left her with one eye only. She doesn’t even scream when an arrow pierces her heart. Kevin takes her glass eye and uses it as his mascot.
Brian and Louise
Brian and Louise are friends of Eva and Franklyn. The pair has wonderful children Franklyn likes playing with.
Giles
Giles is Eva’s brother. He cuts off all contacts with Eva after the mass murder committed by Kevin.
Siobhan
Siobhan is Kevin’s babysitter. The girl is rather afraid of Kevin but does her work flawlessly, for she likes Eva and Franklyn very much. Later on, she asks Eva to let her go or give her a different job.
Mary Woolford
Mary Woolford is a mother of one of Kevin’s victims. She tries to charge Eva with the child neglect.
Herb and Gladys
Herb and Gladys are parents of Franklyn. Although they don’t say it directly, they blame Eva for the tragedy.
Thelma Corbitt
Thelma Corbitt is a mother of Denny, who is one of Kevin’s victims. She allows Eva to attend the funeral.
Loretta Greenleaf
Loretta Greenleaf is a mother of a young criminal. Eva and Loretta meet in the jail, while waiting for the permission to see their sons.
Eva’s mother
Eva’s mother is an elderly woman, who is afraid to leave her house. Eva starts understanding her mother better after the tragedy.
