Under the Dome Metaphors and Similes

The idea (metaphor)

The Joint Chiefs have already "caught" an idea; it has been kicked around at several of the meetings attended by Barbie’s old boss. Eventually, someone in Chester’s Mill is bound to be infected by the same idea and it is not entirely surprising that someone should turn out to be Rory Dinsmore, who is far the sharpest tool in the Dinsmore family drawer. The idea is a metaphor of “a cold germ”: sooner or later someone always catches it. Everybody tries “to catch” someone's idea and steal it.

Soap bubble (simile)

The Dome, which covers the whole Chester’s Mill, is “apt to pop like a soap bubble.” This phrase indicates that the dome has a shape of the sphere and it is transparent as a small copy of the bubble. All scientists wants to find any way “to bust it.” Moreover, when it happens, the town will be flooded with investigators.

In a movie (simile)

Dodee Sanders, who is the best Angie’s friend, is a little drunk, because her mother is dead. She is fumbling up the hall of her best friend’s house in the dark. She rather understand all what is happening to her, but at the same time, it is impossible to believe. She “feels as if she has wandered into some parallel dimension, like in a science fiction movie.” Accordingly, she is not able to do anything and all these problems seem to be unreal.
