    Hengist is introduced as the protagonist in the story 'The Princess and the Poacher.' Ironically, Hengist's desires do not match his looks. The main aim of Hengist is not to join his father's basket making but to be a ladies' guy because he wants to sleep with different gorgeous women of the kingdom. However. Hengist later realizes that he is neither handsome nor well-built to attract a single woman in the kingdom. At last, he fails to draw any single woman, and he decides to be a poacher.

Hengist is wrongly attracted to the work of being a ladies' man, but he finds purpose in poaching. While poaching, Hengist comes across the kingdom's princess, and he likes her a lot, but he does not have the confidence to talk to her. Reflecting on his past women hunting failures, Hengist decides to only spy on the princess. One day, the princess is attacked by a boar, and Hengist is the first person who rescues her.     The author uses the character Princess Mammalia to exemplify how power can corrupt an individual's mind. Mammalia's power comes from her exceptional exquisiteness, which makes all men of the kingdom worship her. The only man in the entire kingdom who is not after Mammalia is the king, her father. Upon realizing that she is very authoritative and all men worship her, Mammalia's mind is corrupted, and she wants to be the overall ruler of the kingdom. Mammalia plots to assassinate her father to achieve her besmirched goals, but he discovers her plans in advance. To tame her daughter, he takes away her beauty, and she becomes powerless.
