“Don’t la, don’t stop for anything.”
A group of people travels through the forest and across dusty hilly roads. The Caravan Leader is behaving like Lord Shiva, and he is ordering people around not to stop and take a rest before they continue with the journey. However, despite the leader giving instructions to stop people from resting, they disobey and stop eating and drinking. Arjun is in the middle of the group, and he wishes the journey to end soon. Arjun determines to be free and do things as he wishes, but he is not being instructed around.
"No cause to fear, though. We have a well-armed caravan. Dacoits are cowardly fellows. Unless they have a clear advantage, bandits will never attack."
Arjun and other caravan members are worried about a possible attack from the bandits after them. However, Arjun's Uncle quickly assures them that their caravan is well organized and has the best strategy than the bandits. According to Arjun's Uncle, the Dacoits are cowards because they are disorganized and lack strategy. However, Arjun realizes that his Uncle doubts his words because he thinks that the Dacoits can decide to enter the camp at night and terrorize them.
“So you must look after her always. Uncle is there to help, but you, Arjun, must protect and oversee her, both on the journey and in Kashi.”
Arjun's father is worried about the safety of Gauri, Arjun's younger sister. The father reminds Arjun that he is responsible for the safety of his younger sister and must ensure that she is okay. Similarly, the father reminds Arjun that his Uncle is available to assist in case of anything. Consequently, the father knows that the journey is dangerous and something bad might happen along the way. Therefore, he reminds Arjun and his Uncle that they must remember to protect Gauri.
