Morrie's Silence Activity

Group Discussion
Objective:
By enacting the silence activity that Morrie taught his own class, students will understand its value, thereby also gaining a deeper understanding of Morrie as well.
Structure:
In the flashback on page 70, Morrie's class spends the first 15 minutes of the period in silence. Slowly students become agitated and begin to squirm. Then, he begins a class discussion on "the effect of silence on human relations." He presents the questions:
Why does silence embarrass us?
What comfort do we find in noise?Bring this same activity to the class. Begin with 15 minutes of silence, not telling students...
