Three Kings Quotes

Quotes

Bush told the people to rise up against Saddam. They thought they'd have our support. Now they don't.

Archie Gates

Archie is both angry and frustrated about his inability to help the dissidents and rebels continue their battle with Saddam. President Bush had originally offered his support in their uprising, taking America to war with Saddam and enabling the dissidents to form more organized and efficient groups with assistance from the American soldiers they were encountering.

However, after the war ended, and a new agreement with Saddam was structured, the despot was able to re-start his murder and abuse of anyone who disagreed with him. The men witness the execution of a woman who begs them for help because her husband has been taken by Saddam's supporters, the Iraqi Guard. They began to rise up against him when they had support from America but now that this support has been temporarily withdrawn and soldiers instructed not to help or get involved, they are in greater danger than before because they are hunted down and in fear of their lives. The woman begs the soldiers not to forget about them. Archie feels that this is exactly what has happened.

Amir Abdullah : You know what I think? I think you're stealing gold. We're fighting Saddam and dying and you're stealing gold.

Archie Gates : You're wrong.

Abdullah : They have half a million men in the desert and they send four guys to pick up all this bullion? I don't think so.

Conversation between Archie Gates and Amir Abdullah

Abdullah realizes that if the mission to pick up the bullion had been a real mission then more men would have been sent to do it. An official mission would have been more strategized and there would have been more men involved in getting into the bunker where the bullion is hidden. There also would have had more men able to defend the key three operatives once they are spotted and hunted down. Abdullah discerns the difference in an operation and an independent attempt to steal and he is offended because he feels that whilst he and his compatriots are fighting a currently losing battle against Saddam and his regime, the soldiers are more concerned with stealing gold.
