The Year of Magical Thinking Lesson Plan

Study Objectives

If all of the elements of this lesson plan are employed, students will develop the following powers, skills, and understanding:

    Students will practice thinking and writing analytically about literature, using examples from Didion's book and literary terminology to explain how the text functions and creates pathos.

    Students will become familiar with the genre of literary memoir.

  3. 3

    Students will analyze Didion's stylistic and literary choices in telling a true story about her life.

  4. 4

    Students will discuss and write about the themes in The Year of Magical Thinking, using evidence from the text to communicate well-considered arguments.
