The Airport
The Mythilene International Airport depicts itself as one of the international airports that offer standard services to its clients. Ironically, when Mina arrives at the airport, she is shocked by the substandard services she receives. Mina says the airport is underequipped because passengers need help with the few available carts.
The irony of love
When Mina joins the medical school, she is heartbroken and does not think she will ever love or be loved again. Ironically, love is paradoxical because when she sees Francine for the first time, she gets attracted to her instantly. However, Mina needs to learn how to approach her. Later, Mina and Francine start dating and get married after finishing medical school.
Arabic world
Ironically, many intellectuals like Mina and other professionals do not understand the Muslim culture. The reader learns that being a proficient speaker of Arabic language is different from the practical aspect of being a Muslim. Therefore, it is ironic that highly learned people who are proudly Arabic do not understand their culture.
