The Tales of Beatrix Potter Summary

The Tales of Beatrix Potter Summary

1. The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck

This is the tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck who lived on a farm with a hen and other ducks. She was annoyed because the farmer’s wife did not let her hatch her eggs herself, rather left the task to the hen.

Desperately, Jemima ran away from the farm one day in search of a safe place to make her nest and lay her eggs. She landed in a foxgloves surrounded area where she met a fox who looked like a gentleman indeed. She recited her needs to him and he led her into a shack where he asked her to make her nest. There, in the shack, lay a huge quantity of feathers and Jemima found them very comforting. She made her nest and lay nine eggs there. The gentlemanly fox looked after them each night when the duck left the shed. One day, she decided to sit full time on the eggs until they hatched. The gentleman asked her to do a dinner party before she starts sitting on the eggs. The duck wasn’t suspicious of the ingredients that the fox had asked her to bring. While at the farm, she told everything to Kep, the wise dog and started again for the shack.

In the end, while the fox hurried to make an omelette with her eggs, Kep and his puppy friends reached in time and rescued the duck from the clever fox.

2. The Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse

This take is about two mice, Johnny Town-Mouse who was born in a cupboard in town and Timmy Willie who was born in a garden in the countryside. One day, Timmy landed in Johnny Town-Mouse’s hole when he, by mistake, traveled to the town in the garden hamper that came to the town and returned empty every weekend to the garden.

Despite Johnny and his friends’ best attempts, Timmy just could not get used to the town’s atmosphere, so he returned to the garden. When Johnny came to the garden to meet his friend, he began missing the noisy town atmosphere and had to return to the town. The story gives us the moral that one place suits one person and another place suits another person.

3. The Story of Miss Moppet

It’s a sweet yet funny story of a cat Miss Moppet and a mouse. Miss Moppet spots the mouse behind a cupboard and jumps to catch it, only to hit her head on the cupboard. To take revenge of this mockery, she sat near the fire with her head wrapped in a duster, a hole in it to look for the mouse.

The mouse thinks that she looks sick and goes near her. She catches the mouse and starts tossing him in the duster in the air but she forgot the duster had a hole in it and when she opened the duster, she mouse was gone from it.
