Structure:
Although he's only a background character in the novel, Shreve plays an important role in Quentin's narrative. Not only is he the one who is called Quentin's "husband," but he also receives the Compson watch after Quentin plans to commit suicide. To better understand the importance of this character, students will write about Quentin from Shreve's perspective.
