Published in 2008, The Sky Inside is a science fiction novel by American author Clare B. Dunkle. The book is the first in the two part The Sky Inside series, and was received with moderate reviews upon release. The book follows the story of main character Martin, who is a young adult living in one of many domed communities. The government in the town is very repressive, and everyone seems to live to work.
One day, a man comes to town announcing the bad news that the genetically engineered "Wonder Babies" will have to be "taken out of circulation". Despite the fact that these are actual people, no one in the community seems to mind, including Martin's parents. Martin's sister is a Wonder Baby, but they dare not speak up, as all of the electronics in their home listen to what they say.
Clare B. Dunkle is an American author and librarian, and specializes in writing fantasy children's fiction. She is well known for "reinventing" the fields that she writes in - for sure, The Sky Inside is not a typical science fiction novel. Born in 1964, Dunkle has also written The Hollow Kingdom in 2003 and its two sequels.
