The Sixth Extension Summary

The Sixth Extension Summary

Elizabeth Kolbert's The Sixth Extension focuses on human beings and how they relate to the environment. It shows that human behavior has caused the Earth to be one the verge of extinction. Many animals and plants are going extinct around the planet because, according to Elizabeth Kolbert, of the rising heat and the lack of viable land.

For example, in Panama, there used to be thousands of golden frogs but now there are only 40-50. With that research Kolbert says, it's clear this planet is heading to extinction.

Kolbert also states that for hundreds of years, humans didn't know that animals or any creatures were going extinct. The first time humans heard about extinction was from scientists Walter Alverez and Luis Alvarez in the 1980s. At first, many didn't believe them but soon people started to believe the theory that asteroid made dinosaurs extinct. Kolbert argues that when humans try to manipulate the environment it pushes us closer to extinction.

The book focuses on how humans will ruin this planet and why we need to stop climate change.
