The Sixth Extension Irony

The Sixth Extension Irony

The relationship between human beings and the environment

Ironically, human beings think that the environment depends on them for it to survive. In contrast, it is human beings that purely rely on the environment for their survival. Therefore, the reader finds it sardonic when human beings destroy the environment for their selfish gains, forgetting that they will die if the environment is destroyed.

The irony of Panama

Every living organism on the planet has the right to live, and it is the responsibility of human beings to ensure that the ecosystem is balanced. Ironically, the people around Panama think that frogs do not have the right to live. The reader finds it sardonic that there are only about 50 frogs in Panama, where thousands of frogs thrived in the previous years.

The iron of animals’ extinction

According to the author, human beings never thought that a time would come when some animals and plants could completely extinct from the face of the earth. Therefore, people never thought of the implications of their negative actions towards the environment. But, ironically, people are becoming increasingly worried about the extinction of some plants and animals.

The irony of human extinction

The book ‘The Sixth Extension’ is entirely ironic because human beings' actions are closer to extinction. The author indicates that people are ignorant of their actions towards the environment. For instance, the rapid exploitation of natural forests severely impacts the water bodies and rain formation. Consequently, there is endless drought, world fires, and pollution, which can make human beings possibly extinct from the face of the earth.

The irony of natural distinction

Darwin's theory of natural extinction discussed in this book is entirely satirical. According to Darwin's theory of natural selection, the environment does not favor specific plants and animals to thrive. Thus, they become extinct. Ironically, the reader comprehends that human activity towards the environment is the major cause of the extinction of various animals and plants. Therefore, the extinction of animals and plants should not be blamed on natural selection but negative human activity towards the environment.
