Objective:

Students will trace major themes in the novel and represent the themes' development on a group poster.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.4

Structure:

Now that students have read a large portion of the novel, they should be able to identify some of its major themes. Start the activity by asking students to bring up some of these themes in class discussion. As students name themes, the teacher should write them on the board. Some themes might include:
