The Road the Wellville Characters

The Road the Wellville Character List

Eleanor Lightbody

This housewife has some issues that she doesn't really want to talk about, but when she gets the idea to entertain some therapy, she manages to talk her husband into checking into a couple's program at a local sanatorium. At the hospital, she finds delightful treatment. Finally, there is a space for her to get to the bottom of her problems, and the therapy continues to be even better than she thought it would be. She even enjoys regular sexual therapy from her handsome doctors.

Will Lightbody

Will's treatment is worse than he could have imagined. He is a poly-abuser in recovery from serious drug addictions, and he still depends on alcohol in a big way. Then, suddenly, he's checked into a hospital where his meals are disturbing health foods for which he has no appetite. He sees a friend of his literally murdered mid-therapy, and his own treatment is cruel and unusual—they use him more for experimentation than therapy.

John Harvey Kellogg

This therapist is what some people might rightly refer to as a "quack." His credentials are of no real importance, because he just makes up his own types of treatment, claiming he is "experimental." In some ways, he is clever and insightful, but behind closed doors, he is toying around with his patients more than actually trying to help him. The women love him though, because of their special treatment in his hospital.

Charlie Ossining

A businessman, this man combines forces with the Kellogg family, getting in by talking to John's son, George, eventually getting John Harvey's attention too. Their idea for a business? Kellogg's cereal. This character works under the business name, "Per-Fo," and he sells his product to these health-minded folks as a kind of alternative medicine.
