Written by Camron Wright, The Rent Collector (published in 2012) tells the story of a married couple named Ki Lim and Sang Ly. They live in a city full of trash they make a living by finding recycled things and selling them. If it isn't worse enough the have a chronically ill child named Nisay and they have to pay a lot for medical bills. When Sang Ly learns that the rent collector wants more money they realize that they're in a world of hurt. Not only must the couple deal with the rent collector, but they also have to deal with the everyday problems in life and in their marriage. With that said, The Rent Collector is a story about hope, strength, perseverance, and about just how powerful and transforming chances at redemption can be.
When it was released, The Rent Collector received incredibly positive reviews. Publisher's Weekly, for example, liked the book, writing that "Like Stung Meanchey, Wright's book sometimes shimmers, but there's a lot to sift through to get to the goods." Booklist liked the book much more than Publisher's Weekly, writing that the book tells "A beautifully told story about the perseverance of the human spirit and the importance of standing up for what is right."
