Frank Prescott

Frank is the husband of Harriet. Frank Prescott is one of the characters in the novel that follow their dreams regardless of the obstacles they encounter. Prescott studied in a boy’s boarding school established by Horace and vowed to start his school in the future. Fortunately, Prescott achieved his dream when he built Episcopalian Boys’ Boarding School. Through Prescott’s dedication to empowering the less fortunate boys in society, he gained much recognition from the community.

Brian Aspinwall

Brian is a hardworking English teacher at the Episcopalian Boys’ School. Brian views Prescott as his role model. After teaching for two years, Brian starts to document the history of Prescott in his diaries to motivate future generations to follow his steps.

Harriet Winslow

Harriet is Prescott's wife. Prescott believes that Harriet is the most qualified wife he has ever met. Harriet is a supportive woman who does everything to ensure her family flourishes.

Horace Havistock

Horace is Prescott’s role model. Horace is a religious man who advises boys in his school to be upright and focused. Horace is the proprietor of the boys’ school where Prescott studied. Horace’s inspiration motivated Prescott to start his school in his later years.

Cordelia

Cordelia is Prescott’s daughter. Cordelia hates her father because she blames him for favoring boys over girls. Despite having only female children, Prescott decides only to empower boys. Cordelia is unhappy about her father’s decision, and she accuses him of being gay because he loves men.

Charley Strong

Charley is a charming young man. Charley studied at Prescott’s boy’s school. Later, Charley started to date Prescott’s daughter, Cordelia. Charley also wrote several diaries about Prescott, and describes him as a dedicated man whose primary focus is to empower boys in society.

David Griscam

Griscam is the main character in the novel. The author portrays Griscam as an intelligent man who follows his dream. Griscam studied at a boys’ boarding school established by Prescott to empower boys in society. Prescott was the headmaster of this school for several years.

When the school board realized that Prescott was aging and unwilling to retire, it requested him to retire. At 82, Prescott retired from his position. David Griscam became the new school headmaster.
