The Prince and the Pilgrim Character List

Baudouin

Baudouin is the Prince of Cornwall. He is killed by his brother King March.

King March

King March is the King of Cornwall. He is jealous of his brother because the people like Baudouin more than they like him. This jealousy makes him kill his brother.

Anna

Princess Anna is the wife of Baudouin. She escapes Cornwall with her son after Baudouin is murdered. She vows to have her son avenge his father’s death.

Alexander

Prince Alexander is the son of Prince Baudouin and Princess Anna. When he is eighteen he goes to seek vengeance for his father’s murder. His journey is interrupted by Queen Morgan. Morgan convinces him to attempt to get the Holy Grail for her. During his quest, he meets Alice. He puts aside his quest and marries Alice.

Drustan

Lord Drustan helps Anna and Alexander escape Cornwall after Baudouin’s murder.

Sadok and Erbin

Sadok and Erbin are brothers. King March sends them after the fleeing Anna and Alexander. The brothers catch up to them, but do not take them back to the King. They liked Baudouin and will not let King March kill his wife and son. They let the pair escape in hopes Alexander will return when he is older to avenge his father’s death.

Theodora

Theodora is Princess Anna’s cousin. She and her husband, Barnabas, take Anna and Alexander into their home outside of Cornwall’s borders to keep them save.

Lady Luned

The keeper of Queen Morgan’s castle. She tries to keep Alexander away from Morgan.

Queen Morgan

Queen Morgan is the sister of King Arthur. Arthur has her under guard after her act of treason against his Kingdom. Morgan plots to take down her brother’s Kingdom. She believes that if she has the Holy Grail she will have the power to take the Kingdom from her brother. Morgan uses her magic to get Alexander to get the Grail for her.

Alice

Alice is the daughter of Duke Ansirus. She travels with her father when he pilgrimages to the holy land and other holy sites. It is unusual to take a girl on such a dangerous trip. Alice is a strong young woman who takes control of her own life and follows her heart by marrying Alexander rather than doing what is expected and marrying Count Madoc.

Duke Ansirus

Duke Ansirus is the father of Alice. He lost his wife and finds solace in his love for his daughter. He takes her with him in his travels because he cannot bear to be without her. He loves his daughter and only wants her to be happy.

Mariamne

Mariamne is the maid of Alice. She is from Jerusalem and misses her country when she is in England. She falls in love with Jeshua, a fellow countryman who also find himself serving in a foreign land.

Queen Clotilda

Queen Clotilda is the widow of Clovis, the Merwing King. Her sons have split up the Kingdom amongst themselves and fight over control of their lands. Queen Clotilda tries to keep her grandsons safe amongst the fighting.

Prince Theudovald

Prince Theudovald is the eldest son of King Chlodomer. He is murdered with his brother Gunthar to keep them from inheriting the Frankish Kingdom.

Jeshua

Jeshua is the steward to Queen Clotilda. He smuggles Prince Chlodovald out of the Frankish Kingdom when Chlodovald’s brothers are murdered by their uncle. He protects the young prince on his journey to England. His grandmother wants him out of the country for his protection. Jeshua becomes part of Duke Ansirus’ household once Prince Chlodovald is taken into protection in a monastery.

Prince Chlodovald

Prince Chlodovald is the youngest son of King Chlodomer. He is the only one to survive when his uncle’s plot to kill him and his brothers. He is taken to England by Jeshua and devotes his life to God.

Count Madoc

Count Madoc is the cousin of Duke Ansirus. The count is considered as a marriage choice for Alice as her father gets older and worries for her safety when he is gone. Madoc is one of Queen Morgan’s men and taking over the Duke’s castle is part of the Queen’s plan to take over King Arthur’s Kingdom. Madoc is upset that Alice marries Alexander before he can marry her and take over the Castle. He attempts to murder Duke Ansirus and is killed by Alexander.
