How does this scene change your perception of the world that McDonagh has created?
In the first scene, Katurian's stories seemed uniquely gruesome, and the murders outrageous. But the fact that this really happened to Katurian within the world of The Pillowman indicates that McDonagh is telling a particularly violent story. The murders remain tremendously disturbing, as do Katurian's stories, but they no longer seem like instances of such unusual violence. This all takes place in a violent world.
