Sade

Sadie is the story's protagonist. Sadie is a young Nigerian girl who witnesses the brutal murder of her mother in the Nigerian streets. The killers were targeting her father, who is an anti-government journalist. Sade and her brother are later smuggled to London for their safety. When they arrive in London, they fail to meet their uncle and end up in a foster family.

While in London, Sade is concerned about the well-being of her father. Later, Sade and her brother Femi start going to school, but she cannot concentrate on her studies because she is worried about her father. Sade is an intelligent girl because when she learns that her father has been detained while trying to enter London illegally, she goes to a TV station to request her father's story to be aired. At last, Sade's efforts pay off when her father is released.

Femi

Femi is Sade's younger brother. Sade is a calm boy who is not concerned much about what is happening around him. However, he helps his sister secure their father's freedom. Femi accompanies his sister whenever they go to visit their father.

Sade’s father

Sade's father is a bold man who works as an anti-government journalist in Nigeria. However, his work is dangerous because talking against the government or exposing its dirty deals can lead to execution. When Sade's father exposes a government scandal, the authorities send assassins to kill him. When Sade's father escapes, the assassins kill his wife.

Uncle Dele

Dele is the uncle of Sade and Femi. After learning of the brutal murder of Sade’s mother, Uncle Dele arranges for the children to be smuggled to London. Unfortunately, before the children arrive, Uncle Dele is arrested by the police and fails to meet the children as earlier arranged.

Mrs. Bankole

Mrs. Bankole is the woman Uncle Dele instructs to smuggle Sade and Femi to the United Kingdom. Mrs. Bankole instructs Sade and Femi to pretend they are her children throughout the journey. When Mrs. Bankole arrives with the children in London, she gets agitated after realizing Uncle Dele is not at the point they agreed to meet. Mrs. Bankole tricks Sade and Femi, leaving them alone in an unknown location.

Mrs. Appiah

Mrs. Appiah is a Ghanaian woman living in London. Mrs. Appiah is compassionate because when she finds Sade and Femi stranded, she takes them to an immigration lawyer to help them. Fortunately, the lawyer helps Sade and Femi get a family that adopts them.

Mariam

Mariam is a Somali girl Sade meets at school. Mariam is a friendly girl who is ready to assist Sade in adapting to the new environment. When Sade tells Mariam about her challenges, Mariam promises to help her in whatever capacity she can manage.

Mercia

Mercia is a white girl at the same school where Sade and her brother are enrolled. Mercia is a racist and she mistreats Sade and her brother. Mercia forces Sade to steal small items for her.
