    There are several occasions of imagery and symbolism making Santiago out to be a Christlike figure. Identify at least one section in the text where this happens and discuss its significance.

    There are several places in the text where that recall the stigmata (a bleeding or pain in the hands). This is also supported by some of the religious imagery in his shack at the beginning of the story. At the end of the novel, some of these images are very strong, especialy when Santiago's hands are getting cut by the line.
