The Name of the Wind Irony

The Name of the Wind Irony

Kvothe

The irony of Kvothe as a main character could be seen as his lack of flaws. Following his story one is immersed in the hardships he goes through to get to his goal, but one can't help but notice that he is generally a good guy who is very resourceful and smart and, for the most part, good at everything life throws his way. His arrogance could be argued as a flaw, but this arrogance comes from self-awareness that stems from his abilities. Opinions on Kvothe as a character are doomed to be very divided as likable or extremely unlikable, and this dislike generally comes from this lack of flaws in his character, which could make him non-relatable which in turn makes it difficult to follow his story.

Deena

Deena is somewhat a complicated character in the sense that she is a little of everything, which in turn could make her a bland character. She is almost more of a motif rather than a character. Her appearance is plain but also striking, she is mysterious but also seems like an open book, she is provocative and sells her body, but she is also unreachable emotionally. She is the ultimate so-called manic pixie dream girl, always chased and rarely caught, and once caught the mystery of her disappears. Deena is the embodiment of an unreachable dream, which when finally reached one sees there is nothing there.
