Brooks
Frederick Brooks is the primary character in this book, as he is the one presenting all of his ideas to readers. Neither an antagonist nor protagonist, Brooks presents his ideas on teamwork, software development, and communication. Brooks maintains a rather biased view throughout the book, as he provides examples of teamwork that may not be used in every field of engineering. Nevertheless, Brooks is educated on the subject of software engineering and is very determined to avoid a communication catastrophe.
The Team
In his book, Brooks described how necessary it is for all member of a team to communicate efficiently. In this way, everyone working on a project are sort of like bees in a beehive, with everyone cooperating as planned. While this leads to a loss of individuality and free time, Brooks notes that it is likely the fastest way to produce an effective engineering outcome.
