The Mythical Man-Month: Essays on Software Engineering Background

The Mythical Man-Month: Essays on Software Engineering is a book written by Frederick Brooks about Software project management. It was published by Addison-Wesley in 1975 and was re-published in 1982 and 1995. It is the first book in a planned duology, though the second book was more of a «paper» than a «book», called «No Silver Bullet».

In the book, several theories and systems for software are presented, such as Brook’s law, which was created by the author, based on other theories such as “the mythical man-month”, “the conceptual integrity” and “the pilot system”. The book can be divided into 15 different parts, all essays, representing the fifteen different systems discussed and presented.

Frederik Phillips Brooks, also known as Fred Brooks had an undergraduate in Duke university, as well as postgraduate in Harvard University. He is most known for managing and developing the OS/360 system owned by IBM, as well as his book. He has won numerous awards, including the IEEE John vin Neumann Medal in 1993 and the Turning Award in 1999.
