Writing the Next Chapter
Kind of Activity:
Individual Writing
Objective:
Students will analyze what they know about the novel to hypothesize what is likely coming next in the novel.
Structure:
Begin this activity with a short classwide discussion about the plot of the novel up to this point. Cover the specifics about the major events that have happened as well as what readers know about the characters. Also, be sure to talk about where the novel leaves off at the end of Chapter 11.
Once you feel satisfied with this discussion, instruct students to individually write the next chapter of the novel: what they think will come next given the information they have. This is...
