I Am Poems

Objective:

Students will be able to write poems that express the voice of the characters.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.11-12.3

Structure:

Ask students to pick a character in the novel whose story they feel deserves greater detail, or who they want to explore from a new angle.

Have them write twenty "I Am" statements that characterize the individual in ways that are only implied by the story.
