Dreadfulness
Dreadfulness in the novel The Hollow Boy is symbolized by the appearance of the poltergeists. Throughout the novel, the people living in Scotland Yard, London, and Chelsea are terrified because of the endless attacks from the ghosts. When the reader keenly follows the tales of how the ghosts appear, he gets petrified. The people in the mentioned cities live in fear.
Lockwood & Co. is a symbol of fortitude.
The Lockwood & Co. team symbolizes fortitude. Astonishingly, Lockwood and Co. is the smallest investigative agency in town, but it is the most successful. The agency has only three employees, but they compete favorably with big firms like the Fittes.
The irony of veracity
Ironically, young people like Lucy and her colleagues embark on the thorniest task of dealing with ghosts. The reader expects the adults to take up the mantle and lead from the front. Incongruously, Lucy is 15 years old and works closely with Lockwood and George, all juveniles but performs the most intricate task on earth, which involves dealing with precarious specters.
