Crisis of Identity
The narrator describes her struggles of being an American-Korean child of the immigrant parents. Indicating her sense of conflict, the narrator explains that she doesn't know the feeling of being the part of a community, even if she's an American, but her cultural identity of an Asian and this dual identity makes her discombobulate
Ethnicity
The writer's parents are from Korea, and they live in America. Although Caroline is an American girl, her parents expect her to marry a Korean man, so that their blood line will be pure.
Filial Daughter
The writer tells that her parents have high expectations from her. They always remind her about the sacrifices they have made in order to give her a bright future. The narrator tries to do everything as her parents wish. She feels obligated to them and wants to become a filial child because this is the way she can repay her parents.
Dual Culture
This essay shows that the impact of the culture in the life of a person be so drastic. The writer deals with two different cultures in her life. She pretends to be an American outside and becomes Korean in her house. She looks Asian but doesn't know about her heritage and culture. Her parents want her to remain a Korean because they love their homeland.
