    Why is it dangerous for all powers of government to be accumulated in one person?

    This is an open question, but one for which many students will probably feel they have an intuitive answer. Many will affirm Madison's argument that a democracy that invests extraordinary power in a single person or group of people is not much different than a monarchy. Others may draw upon other, more subtle arguments. For such students, the likelihood of such power corrupting whoever possesses it, and of not being able to prevent that person/group of people from amassing more power, will likely be foremost in their minds.
