The action of the novel “The Eye of the World” takes place in the fictional universe. It takes place in Emond’s Field, which is a village that people rarely reach. It is a kind of village on the edge of the world, which several people know and remember.
The main character is Rand al’Thor. He has two friends – a sneaky Matrim Cauthon and a straightforward Perrin Aybara. They are Ta’veren – people, who are surrounded by life-threads that form the Pattern. He is a slightly red-haired person with gray eyes, tall and broad-shouldered, courageous and reliable, in love with Egwene al’Vere. Rand’s nature is clearly stubborn.
The story begins with a gruesome battle. Lews Therin Telamon sees many dead men everywhere in his palace and he is looking for Elayne, who is his beloved wife. However, he bumps into Elan Morin. Lews realizes that his wife is dead, and his battle with Elan Morin has been going on since the time, when the Wheel of Time made its first circle. Lews himself kills everyone in the palace, being unconscious. Lews absorbs the True Power and instead of him, a mountain appears on the ground. The man in black is angry and promises to meet the Dragon again, because their battle will not end until the end of time. And the World splits.
Peaceful time comes after a hard winter and the holiday of Beltane is expected. There is a feeling of anticipation of spring warmth and folk festivals. The minstrel Tom and the peddler Fain arrive, although Emond’s Field is located on the outskirts, and a rare visitor visits these lands. Rand and his father are riding on horseback, but suddenly Rand sees a grim, faceless horseman, who resembles a shadow of Myrddraal. He is frightened, but his father turns around and sees no one. Rand meets friends – Matrim, Perrin and Egwene. He has mutual sympathy for Egwene.
In the evening, Rand and his father go to the farm, where Trollocs attack them at night. Rand’s father is badly injured and he is on the verge of death. Being delirious, he admits that Rand is not his son. Moiraine Damodred, who is Aes Sedai, saves Rand’s father. She also tells three friends that Trollocs are hunting for them in order to give them to Myrddraal. They need to leave the city for Tar Valon, where Aes Sedai live. Egwene and the minstrel Tom decide to accompany the heroes. It turns out that Egwene can also become Aes Sedai. Nynaeve, who finds heroes, is dissatisfied with this, but Egwene is inspired. In the future, it turns out that Nynaeve is also Aes Sedai, and very powerful if she begins to develop her abilities, which she has learned to control and suppress.
The heroes spend the night in the tavern, but on the way, they again run into Trollocs. Rand and his friends try to hide in the haunted city and meet Mordeth, but even there Myrddraal finds them. They escape and split up. Rand, Matrim and the minstrel Tom are on the ship led by Bayle Domon, while Perrin and Egwene are in the woods. There they meet Elyas Machera, who talks to wolves. It turns out that Perrin also has this ability. The minstrel remains to fight Trollocs to allow their friends to escape and hide. They stay at the Caemlyn Hotel. There, Moiraine finds them and says that Matrim needs to get to the White Tower, otherwise the curse of the dagger taken from Shadar Logoth will kill him. Nynaeve tells Lan Mandragoran she loves him, but he cannot reciprocate – he holds back debt to Moiraine. They go to Fal Dara, where the battle begins and Rand defeats Aginor. It is revealed that Rand is able to focus the True Power. He does not want to become False Dragon and be used by Aes Sedai. The Eye of the World disappears and in the place of it, the broken seal of the Dark One, the Horn of Valor and the Dragon Banner appear. Rand is afraid of his strength, he does not want to hurt anyone and he does not want to go crazy. He plans to stay away from Aes Sedai. Moiraine learns that the Dragon has been reborn.
