Rand al'Thor
The main character of the novel, Rand is a son of a sheepherder of Two Rivers. He and the two of his friends are hunted by the Dark One, because they carry special blood of Manetheren.
Mat Cauthon
Mat is one of the three chosen boys from Two Rivers. He comes from a farmer family. He is hotheaded and brings the entire crew in trouble by stealing the forbidden dagger from Shadar Logoth.
Perrin Aybara
Perrin is the third chosen boy from Two Rivers. He is a blacksmith's apprentice and carries an axe with him for protection. After meeting Elyas, Perrin discovers that he can communicate with wolves.
Egwene al'Vere
Egwene is the main female character in the novel. She starts off as being the expected next Wisdom of Two Rivers, but after meeting Moiraine, she wants to become an Aes Sedai and be able to wield the One Power.
