    Objective:

    Students will compare fictional characters and non-fictional characters from two different works to understand character development.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.11-12.3

    Structure:

    In Chapter 19, when Kesey is sentenced to the work farm, he sees himself becoming Randle McMurphy, the main character from his book, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Have students research McMurphy as a character using a variety of sources, including reading excerpts from the book and secondary sources online analyzing his character.
