The book opens with a terrifying discovery of two dead bodies in a freezer. Gerry and his daughter Jessica try to rearrange their household after the death of Donna from cancer. She is Jessica’s mother and Garry’s wife. In their freezer they found the dead bodies of Jamie and Casey Cheng.
The police are summoned and found that this death mystery are filed eighteen years ego. Police closed that case because they assumed that those children ran away from that city. Now, they are starting the investigation on this case again.
Jessica, who is a social worker tries to solve this mystery in her own way and makes horrifying discovery. She with her colleagues discovers that the Cheng sisters were from very poor background whose parents were unemployed, drunkard. Casey made a sexual relationship with a 37 years old friend Wayen Chow, after that they were driven out by their parents, and then they took shelter in Tindalls’ house and Campbells’ house where they were mistreated and raped. Now, they came in Donna’s house. Donna treats them very well and opens the freezers for them to eat. We don’t know how they died because there is no evidence of this solution.
Jessica discovers many things about her family and grand mother who was left with her two children Donna and Devin. Among them Devin was sexually perverted and Donna is her mother. Devin slips and fell on a rock in a rainy night and died and Donna has died in cancer.
The story appears to be a murder mystery to be solved but it ends abruptly. It brings out no solution of this murder but surely it brings out the appalling situation of women in society.
