The City and the City is a book written by China Miéville and was first published on 15 May 2009 by Macmillan. The genre falls into both weird fiction and police crime drama, and was written as homage to the author’s mother.

The plot revolves around Inspector Tyador Borlú, of the Extreme Crime Squad, as he investigates a murder which transcends to multiple cities. He becomes are that larger things are at play, leading to a full scale investigation into the legend of a lost city, known as Orciny, as a means to answer his unanswered questions.

This novel won numerous prestigious awards, including, the 2010 Hugo Award for Best Novel and Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel. A TV adaptation was broadcast by the BBC on 2018 with David Morrissey cast as Inspector Tyador Borlú.
