The Cartographer Tries to Map a Way to Zion Background

The Cartographer is a highly themed book of poetry written by Kei Miller and published in 2014. The book follows the story of a cartographer (one who makes maps) that tries to find a religious city by mapping his way to it. As a Rastaman (a member of a Jamaican religion), he wants to find the Zion, which is told of in ancient texts. Once a logical, scientific man, the cartographer is forced to become more creative through his travels. No longer can he simply map places out - each location has a rich, hidden history that hold the keys to finding the city of Zion.

Born in 1978, Kei Miller is a Jamaican poet, and currently teaches creative writing. Born and raised in Jamaica, Miller got the amazing opportunity to go to college. However, he dropped out of school, but was persuaded by a friend to take up writing. He did, and has since published several collections of poems and short stories, ranging on topics from overcoming homophobia to religion.
