Every classroom is different, but we acknowledge that many students struggle with poetry. However, the combination of strict form and surrealism in Neruda's work allows many different ways to appeal to students.
This Lesson Plan uses William O'Daly's 1991 translation of The Book of Questions. You are free to use another, but be aware that the vocabulary lists draw from this translation. Teaching Neruda also offers many opportunities to collaborate with Spanish language teachers, since all translations of Neruda's work are published with the Spanish originals alongside the translation.
